Dag van de architectuur / Day of architecture

Architectuur onder de aandacht brengen van een zo groot mogelijk publiek..
Dat is het doel van de “dag van de architectuur” die elk jaar in het laatste weekend van juni georganiseerd wordt door de Bond van Nederlandse Architecten.
Er zijn rondleidingen, wandelingen, fietstochten enz. Het programma is te vinden
op Dag van de architectuur.

Bringing architecture to the attention of a public at large.
That’s the goal of the “Day of Architecture”, organized every year in the last weekend of June by the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects.There are guided tours, walks, bicycle rides (of course – we’re Dutch…),etc.

Architectuur is ongelooflijk boeiend, vind ik. Telkens weer gaat het om visies, ideeën, die heel concreet vorm krijgen. Een gebouw is niet zomaar een gebouw. Het weerspiegelt de geschiedenis en de geest van de tijd.
Om maar even op mijn eigen vakgebied te blijven: toen in 1848 er vrijheid van godsdienst kwam in Nederland en de katholieken weer kerken konden bouwen, werd er teruggegrepen naar de gothiek,als tijd en bouwstijl waarin de katholieke kerk dominant was. Katholieke kerken uit die tijd zijn vrijwel allemaal neo-gothische kerken. We zijn er weer…en hoe..lijken die kerken te zeggen…

Architecture is incredibly fascinating. Every time it’s about visions,ideas getting a concrete shape. A building isn’t just a building. It reflects the history and the spirit of the time.
An example: In 1848 the Constitution of the Netherlands was changed. Since that year there’s freedom of religion. The Catholics could build churches again. One went back to the Gothic, as an age and architectural style of a dominant Catholicism. Catholic churches built in that time are almost all neo-gothic. They seem to say: we’re back..and how!

Kijkend naar hedendaagse architectuur… het is boeiend om te zien hoe de ideeën van een architect en de visie en eisen van een opdrachtgever vorm krijgen in een heel concreet gebouw. Op dit blog heb ik daar iets overgeschreven bij de verhalen over het Deventer Ziekenhuis. En indirect in het verhaal over de Politieacademie.
Maar dat ben ik… en mijn belangstelling voor de interpretatie en vertaling van visies heeft natuurlijk ook met mijn oorspronkelijke vak te maken. ( voor wie het interesseert: het gaat dan om hermeneutiek)

Het gewoon maar kijken en genieten blijft toch het belangrijkste!

Lissabon/ Lisbon: expo quarter

Looking at contemporary architecture: … it is fascinating to see how the ideas of an architect and the vision and requirements of a client take shape in a very concrete building. On this blog I have written something about it in the posts about the Deventer Hospital. And indirectly in the post about the Police Academy.
That’s me.. and I think my interest in the interpretation and translation of vision has also to do with my original field of study. (For those who are interested: this has to do with hermeneutics)

Just watching and enjoying is still the most important!

Architectuur fotograferen is iets wat ik steeds leuker en boeiender begin te vinden. Lijnen, patronen,vormen en licht…en ..wat voor invalshoek kies je? Kijk niet gek op als je mij liggend op de grond onderaan een van de gebouwen van de Belastingdienst hier in Apeldoorn vindt…

Architectural photography is something I do love more and more. Lines, patterns, shapes and light … and .. what angle do you choose? Don’t be surprised if you find me lying on the ground underneath one of the IRS-buildings here in Apeldoorn …

Lissabon/ Lisbon:

De Santa Justa lift (1902) verbindt de laaggelegen wijk Baxia met het hoger gelegen Carmoplein.
The Santa Justa elevator (1902) connects the lower streets of Baxia with the higher Largo di Carmo.
De lift is ontworpen  door/ the elevator is designed by Raul Mesnier de Ponsard.

In 1998 werd in Lissabon de Wereldtentoonstelling gehouden. Er werd een nieuw station gebouwd: het Garo do Oriente, ontworpen door de Spaanse architect Santiago Calatrava.
In 1998 the World Expo was held in Lisbon. A new “multi modal terminal” was built: Garo do Oriente, designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

De wijk werd in stijl verder gebouwd.

After the Expo, buildings got a new destination and new buildings were built in a style according to the quarter. This is a appartmentbuilding from 2000, designed by José Quintela.

Dit waren zomaar wat foto’s uit mijn archief. Wie denkt dat je alleen met een dure spiegelreflex mooie foto’s kan maken: de foto’s in Lissabon zijn allemaal genomen met een compactcamera, de Fujifilm Finepix F30, omdat ik die dure spiegelreflex niet mee  durfde te nemen naar de stad:)

These were just a few archive photos. Who supposes you can only make nice photos with an expensive DSLR: the photos in Lisabon are all taken with a compactcamera, the Fujifilm Finepix F30, cause I was a bit afraid to bring my expensive DSLR into the big city:)

Nederland kleurt oranje…. the Netherlands is turning orange…

Nederland heeft de eerste wedstrijd tegen Denemarken verloren. Wie had dat kunnen denken?
De hoop is nog niet verloren. Ook in 1988 verloor Nederland zijn eerste wedstrijd, tegen de Sovjet-Unie. Later, in de finale, stond Nederland weer tegen de Sovjet-Unie in het veld. En won. Europees kampioen!

The Dutch team lost their first match against the Danish team. Something nobody expected.
Anyway, hope is not lost. In 1988 the Dutch lost their first match against the Sovjet-Union. Later on, in the final match, the Dutch had to play again against the Sovjet-Union. They won. They became European Champion 1988.

De afgelopen weken is Nederland oranje gekleurd. Reden om de camera mee te nemen  stad in…
Hoe lang alles oranje zal blijven? Tot en met woensdag als Nederland tegen Duitsland voetbalt? Of toch nog langer…..

In the past weeks the Netherlands has turned  orange. Reason enough to take my camera with me into town…
How long will everything be orange? Up till wednesday when the Netherlands have to play against Germany? Or longer….

Nederland is een nuchter land. Maar wanneer het om voetbal gaat lopen de emoties hoog op.
We kennen ook nauwelijks nationalisme. “God, Nederland en Oranje” goldt nooit voor het hele land.Het was wat de protestanten ( m.n. de Hervormden) bondt. De anderen,of het nu katholieken, joden en later ook gereformeerden en socialisten waren, hoorden er eigenlijk niet bij. Zij maakten hun eigen emancipatieproces door ( de verzuiling) en waren eerder gericht op de eigen kring dan op de natie. De Tweede Wereldoorlog en de jaren die volgden maakten daar een einde aan. Maar een nationaal gevoel kent Nederland nog steeds niet…
Behalve als het om voetbal gaat?
Oranje werd van de naam van ons koningshuis ook tot naam van het Nederlands elftal….

The Netherlands is a rather sober country. But when it comes to football emotions are rising high.
We hardly know nationalism. History tells us why. “God, the Netherlands and Orange (the name of our royal family)” didn’t concern the whole nation. It was what the Protestants ( the Hervormde Kerk in particular) bound. The others, whether they were catholics, jews, and later on also the little reformed churches and the socialists, didn’t actually belong to “the nation”. They had to fullfill their own process of emancipation ( de verzuiling) and were more directed on their own circle than on the nation as a unity. WWII and the years that followed brought that to a end.
But still the Netherlands doesn’t know a national feeling….
Except when it comes to football!!!
Oranje ( Orange) as the name of our royal family also became the name of our national team…..

En ik dan?
Ik volg de Nederlandse voetbalcompetitie nauwelijks…
Maar nu….
Vanmorgen vroeg stuurde ik een mail naar een Duitse penpal om haar te feliciteren met de overwinning van gisteren. We kijken beide uit naar de wedstrijd van woensdag.
Oranjekoorts is besmettelijk!!

And what about me?
I hardly follow the Dutch football competition…
But now…
Early this morning I sent an email to a German penpal to congratulate her with yesterday’s win. We’re both looking forward to wednesday’s match..
Orangefever is catching!

En daar ben ik blij mee. Ze schrijft daarover op haar blog:  a friend from the Netherlands who takes beautiful photos which make me want to go visit.  She helps me to see the world around me in a different way.
Ik lees haar blog onbeingmindful al een maand of negen. Ze schrijft over haar dagelijks leven, haar omgaan met haar bipolaire stoornis, het weer oppakken van haar studie om zelf therapeut te worden. Ze heeft het talent om te verwoorden wat ze meemaakt en daar diepgang aan te geven.

I read her blog onbeingmindful for about nine months. She writes about her daily life, her coping with bipolar II, her going back to grad school again to become a therapist herself. She has the gift to give words to what she’s been through, and to give depth to it.

Bijna een jaar geleden, in augustus 2011, begon ik met dit blog. Elke week een post over iets dat ik had gezien, waar ik over na had gedacht, wat ik wilde delen in foto’s en gedachten. Twintig mensen hebben een abonnement, 81 kunnen het volgen via Facebook. Daarnaast zijn er veel mensen die via een zoekmachine op mijn blog terecht komen.  Deventer Ziekenhuis en Dimence scoren daarbij hoog. En mijn eigen naam:) Een nieuwe stroom van bezoekers kwam vanaf oktober via Postcrossing. De reacties van die bezoekers vind ik dan een paar weken later op een ansichtkaart! Zo zijn er bezoekers uit 35 landen. Nederland en de Verenigde Staten gaan aan top. België, Duitsland, Rusland en Polen volgen daarna. Ook Finland, Oekraine, China, Korea, Oostenrijk, Taiwan, Canada, Wit-Rusland, Engeland, Spanje, Italië, Frankrijk, Japan, Turkije, Hongkong, Australië, Zweden en Tsjechië staan meer dan een keer op de lijst…

Almost a year ago, in August 2011, I started blogging. Every week a post about something I saw, something I thought about, and wanted to share in photos and thoughts. Twenty people have subscribed, 81 can follow the blog through Facebook. Apart from them there are a lot people who find my blog by a search engine. Deventer Hospital and Dimence are popular search terms. And my own name:)
A new stream of visitors came by Postcrossing. Their comments I find a few weeks later on a postcard!
Visitors come from several countries: from the Netherlands and the USA the most. On a short distance Belgium, Germany, Russia and Poland. Finland, Ukraine, China, Korea, Austria, Taiwan, Canada, Belarus, the UK, Spain, Italy, France, Japan, Turkey, Hongkong, Australia, Sweden and the Chez Republic are more than once in the statistics.
