Na mijn intermezzo als patiënt in het ziekenhuis in Apeldoorn ben ik weer terug als fotograaf in het Deventer Ziekenhuis.  Eerlijk gezegd: de foto’s in Deventer waren al genomen voordat ik ziek werd.  Een vergelijking tussen Apeldoorn en Deventer zal ik  maar niet maken. Daarvoor was de situatie te verschillend:)

After my intermezzo as a patient in the Apeldoorn hospital  I’m back as photographer in the Deventer Hospital. In fact: the photos in Deventer were already taken before I fell sick.  I won’t make a comparison between the two hospitals. The situation was too different:)

In dit blog ga ik dieper en hoger het ziekenhuis in.
Eerst het dak op!  Wanneer het mooi weer is een prachtige plaats  voor medewerkers om te lunchen.  Maar ook patiënten maken er gebruik van. Je kunt zelfs met bed en al het dak op gereden worden om te genieten van de buitenlucht en het  uitzicht.

First: to the roof. When the weather is nice it’s a good place for  a lunchbreak. Patients use this place as well. Even in your bed you can be brought to the roof to enjoy the fresh air and the view.

Een belangrijke plaats in een ziekenhuis is het laboratorium.  Een patient ziet vaak alleen de bloedafname-afdeling beneden. De immense werkplaats waar bloed en andere lichaamsstoffen geanalyseerd worden onttrekt zich aan het oog. En toch is dat de plek die een grote rol speelt in de diagnose. Met heel moderne apparatuur wordt daar ontdekt wat er met iemand aan de hand is, of wordt een vermoedelijke diagnose bevestigd.

An important  place in a hospital is the laboratory. A patient often only sees the unit where they take blood samples. The huge workplace where blood and other body substances get analysed  is hidden from view. Yet it is a place that plays a big role in the diagnosis. With the help of very modern equipment one might discover what’s wrong  or  a possible diagnosis can be confirmed.

Een verpleegafdeling is de meeste mensen meer vertrouwd.

De kleuren zijn warm.  Opvallend is het scherm en toetsenbord dat bij elk bed hangt. Je kunt daar internetten, emailen, radio luisteren, tv kijken én je keuze maken voor het eten.

To most people a  nursing unit is more familiar.
The colors are warm.
Striking  is the screen and keybord next to each bed.  There you can use the internet, emailing, listening to the radio, watching tv and making your choice for dinner.

Zegt het uiterlijk van een ziekenhuis iets over de kwaliteit van de zorg? Dat is een vraag die ik me stelde in het eerste blog over het Deventer Ziekenhuis.
In mijn gang door het ziekenhuis  raakte ik  onder de indruk van alles waar echt over was nagedacht.  De kleuren, de kunst, de openheid en gastvrijheid.  Al fotograferend kom je makkelijk in gesprek met mensen: patiënten en bezoekers.  Het woord dat daar steeds genoemd werd was “aandacht”.  Gezien worden als mens. Een kopje koffie krijgen op de poli als je moet wachten is dan al heel belangrijk.

En de medische kant? Voor zover je die kunt scheiden van de menselijke kant….

Daarvoor verwijs ik graag naar de Zorgkaart Nederland en de site van het ziekenhuis zelf.

En natuurlijk, overal is wel eens iets…..
En het ziekenhuis heeft heel veel geluk gehad dat ze zo de ruimte hadden om in de breedte te bouwen op de Rielerenk.

In de week dat ik dit schrijf wordt bekend dat de ziekenhuizen van Deventer, Zutphen en Apeldoorn  gaan onderzoeken op welke manier ze meer kunnen gaan samenwerken. Ik ben benieuwd hoe dit gestalte zal krijgen!

Is there a relation between the way a hospital is designed and built and the quality of care?
A question I asked myself in my first blog post about the Deventer Hospital.
Going through the hospital I was  impressed by all that has given considerable thought. The colors, the art, the openness, the hospitality.  When photographing it’s easy to get in touch with people: patients and visitors. The word they often mentioned was “attention“. Being  seen as a human being.  Getting a cup of coffee when you have to wait in the outpatients  unit, seems a little thing, but happens to be important.

And the medical side? As far as you can separate that of the human side…..
For that I refer to the “Zorgkaart Nederland” and the website of the hospital.

And of course, nothing is perfect….
And the hospital was lucky they had so much room to build on the Rielerenk.

In the week I write this I read in the newspaper  that the hospitals of Deventer, Zutphen and Apeldoorn  are going to investigate in which way they can work  together.  I wonder what that is going to mean  in our region!
